Dr. Curtis Bonk

Curt Bonk is a former corporate controller and CPA, who, after becoming sufficiently bored with that, received his master’s and Ph.D. degrees in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin. He is now Professor at Indiana University and adjunct in the School of Informatics. In 2007, he was named a Visiting Professor at the University of Glamorgan in Wales. Dr. Bonk was recently a Senior Research Fellow with the Advanced Distributed Learning Lab within the Department of Defense and before that at the Army Research Institute. He has received numerous teaching and mentoring awards from IU as well as the CyberStar Award from the Indiana Information Technology Association, the Most Outstanding Achievement Award from the U.S. Distance Learning Association, and the Most Innovative Teaching in a Distance Education Program Award from the State of Indiana. Curt has given more than 1,000 talks around the globe related to online teaching and learning, including ones at universities in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Finland, Ireland, Singapore, Spain, Iceland, the UK, and the Saudi Arabia. In addition, he has over 260 publications on topics such as online learning pedagogy, massive multiplayer online gaming, wikibooks, blogging, open source software, collaborative technologies, and synchronous and asynchronous computer conferencing. He is author of the Handbook of Blended Learning: Global Perspectives, Local Designs (2006) as well as Empowering Online Learning: 100+ Activities for Reading, Reflecting, Displaying, and Doing (2008). Judy Brown
judybrown2Judy Brown is a Mobile Learning Strategic Analyst who retired as the Emerging Technology Analyst in the Office of Learning and Information Technology (OLIT) at the University of Wisconsin System Administration in 2006. As such, for six years (2000-2006) she was the Founder and Director of the Academic Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Co-Lab in partnership with the Department of Defense; conducted research on new computer directions and related technologies for the 15 institution UW System; focused on partnerships for improving learning with corporate, government and educational institutions at the Academic ADL Co-Lab in Madison, WI; and represented UWSA on instructional technology initiatives including The MASIE Center e-Learning Consortium.

Since retirement, Judy has continued work in mobile learning. See Current Activities for initiatives. Recently she accepted a position with ADL's Immersive Learning Technologies Team focusing on mobile learning.
Previously Judy was the Emerging Technology Analyst for the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and coordinated the WTCS Hardware and Software Purchasing Consortium.
Initially hired as a computer-based education programmer in 1984 at Fox Valley Technical College, responsibilities also included purchasing of computer hardware and software; and developing and implementing technology standards throughout the district.
Judy was named one of the Top 100 women in computing by McGraw Hill's Open Computing magazine (December 1994) and wrote a business technology column for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel from 1994 through 2000.
